Petzl: Am'd Lock Carabiner

AM'D

D-shaped carabiner for connecting devices on harnesses
The shape and size of this carabiner makes it great for most uses, from connecting a belay device to your harness or as a connector at the end of a lanyard. The D-shape makes it one of the strongest and lightest locking carabiners Petzl makes.

D-shape has the highest strength-to-weight ratio of all carabiner designs
Keylock system
Available with manual locking system (SCREW-LOCK) or auto-locking systems (BALL-LOCK, TRIACT-LOCK)
Perfectly suited for use with belay devices due to its symmetric shape on both ends of the carabiner

Great for anchors and creating top belay setups Review by Burk
The D shape of this carabiner is ideal for distributing the load along the axis of the carabiner, making it exceptionally strong. It has a larger strength rating (28kN) than most locking carabiners (~24kN) of the same size and material. I bought it to create a top belay device, but would also use it as an anchor for toproping. It is thicker than other smaller screwgate carabiners (like the Black Diamond Positron screwgate), which inspires confidence for frequent use. It works as a belay device so long as you have an ATC. It does not have the pear shape, which allows for a rope only belay with a Munter-hitch. But, if you are looking for a strong, solid carabiner for setting up anchors, this is a great carabiner.
